ZOPO ZP998 Octacore Android Smartphone Review and Giveaway
The 50b priced at around USD$220 will be using MediaTeks MT6582 chipset, which is a quad-core processor running at 1.3Ghz per core. Strangely, and maybe by necessity being a budget phone, both variants will have only 1GB of RAM. The performance boost of added RAM say maybe 2GB of it in an octa-core phone is substantial, and we were wondering if Archos could have squeezed the cost enough to at least put 2GB of RAM in the octa-core 50c Oxygen. Also, both variants will have the same 2,000maAh batteries. Again we wonder if a little more battery power could have been given to the octa-core variant, which is sure to need more juice turning 8 cores.

The core apps for the Google experience are here, as are the core apps for a smartphone experience. Theres no duplication of application functionality here. You get the stock Android apps out of the box, and just a few additions to help you live. One of those additions is the torch app, which you can activate with a touch-baseshortcut on the screen when the OnePlus One is on stand-by, or idling on the lock screen. Draw a quick V on the screen and thecamera LED will turn on like a touch. You can also draw a circle to activate the camera, or a two fingered swipe to play or pauseyour music. You can also double tap the screen instead of pressing the power button to wake up the device. Given the nature of the power button (it is very small and almost flush to the edge of the device), this is a welcome addition to the UI ofthisChinese-built smartphone.

When idling, the ZP998 drains about 20 percent over an eight hour period, which isnt particularly good, although since I have poor cellular reception in my area, this isnt all that bad either. Benchmark Performance In AnTuTu, the ZP998 scored around 28,000, making it on paper among the fastest smartphones you can buy today. However, we must note that the MTK6592 chipset offers an octacore processor octacore processors may work fantastic for multitasking but they require that apps support multiple threads. Most apps, unfortunately, do not take full advantage of the eight cores and so you typically get poorer performance than a CPU with a higher frequency and fewer cores. Also take into consideration that AnTuTu scores suffer from rampant cheating device manufacturers configure their phones to overclock whenever benchmarking is detected.

Mutant Malware Threatens US Android Phones
It has superb performance, and excellent build quality spoiled only slightly by running hot in use. You can’t fault the feature set, and it matches the other high-end products in terms of price. In terms of audio and visual output it is unsurpassed. The interface might be an acquired taste for some, and we weren’t overly impressed with the camera. It’s not perfect, but alongside the Xperia Z and iPhone 5 this is about as good a phone as you can buy. Reviewed on: 13 May 14 RRP: 135 inc VAT Rating: Motorola’s Moto G is the best budget smartphone around.

OnePlus One Review: The CyanogenMod Powered Smartphone That Outclasses The Android Competition – Forbes
This new version of Svpeng got a makeover in looks as well as strength: Its screen overlay stops Android users from accessing any other device functions, and is difficult to circumvent because the malware launches upon reboot. (Affected users should use Google to learn how to put their specific device into “safe mode,” which may get around the lockout.) The creators have also customized the new variant of Svpeng to target Android users in the United States, tricking out the lock screen with an FBI logo. This version takes a picture of the infected phone’s user with the device’s front-facing camera and displays it on the screen, claiming the FBI have the image and know the user’s face. Users are then told to pay $200 in MoneyPak vouchers if they want to regain control of their phones, and are even directed users to stores in the U.S. that sell the vouchers.
